we are looking at making pre-cut baits for long lines at the moment in 2 and 4 kg buckets and vac pac, salted in buckets and vac pac in brine/oil, we will have the baby squid coming out very soon 4 " long also will have them stuffed with a special berley mixture, any ideas regarding what baits you prefer would be good but we are looking at - squid, skippy, mackerel , pillie, mullet and baby squid

Pillies, piper and skippys might be ok for a boat long line but are just not durable enough, even when salted to handle a west coast torpedo run.

+ 2

Main baits we use to fish off the west coast on a kite and kontiki are either fresh KY or mullet as they stay on the hook when going through the surf.  One thing I would actually like to try though (pipe dream) is flounder.  Every one of our 20lb - 30lb plus snapper have been caught in August and have had flounder in their guts.

Yip, Fresh KY or mullet.  Salted mullet if none of the above. Have found flounder in the bigger snapper as well but there is no way any flounder I get will end up as bait! ( Not a target species I have much luck with Cry  )
