Anyone been hitting the channel this winter?  Gotta a mate up from tauranga keen to head out on sunday for a hook up just looking for a spot for a quick fish! I only know the channel from summer hits so if anyone got advice on wheres good let me know! thanks an advance!

Hi Martin, mostly slow this part of the year. Having said that you could try the shallows near the Rangi light. Use lots of burley and bring them out. Otherwise, do you have a boat capable of going out wide? There are spots available and mind you we have some good days weather wise in winter as well.

lighthouse or A bouy mate otherwise if you can go to a little bay called administration bay.Stay close to the entrance and the rocks.good fishing in winter believe me.Good luck

Yes that's good as well. Mind you I have caught some bule cod out there a few winters ago. Not great sizes. Berly legal I'd say. Not a regular occurance. Maybe a one off. Never seen cod there in the last two years. Yes but snapper hang out in the reefs there and you might bring them out with some good burley. Cheers and good luck

megabites funnily i have caught heaps of John Dorys and gurnards there as well.A kingie or 2 as well.Not huge but highly legal.Not right time for kingies now but Dorys yeah might get lucky
