Mint morning on the water yesterday in the Motuihi Channel about level with Home Bay. Courtesy of the stabilised binoculars, we were able to spot a bit of a work up over that way from 4km away so made the call to head over that way. Masses of shearwaters on the water, a reasonable number of terns diving and big kahawai smashing up the anchovies. We snaffled a couple of kahawai for the smoker and a few more to salt down later for bait then mainly used the Ocean Angler flea jigs to pick up 6 snapper.  Nothing earth shattering in size, and quite a few throw backs but it was calm, warm and with the kahawai jumping around, the birds..... great day out. The flea jigs also picked up a number of big jack macs, so bait stocks are replenished. We put down some fresh kahawai bait but it was totally ignored. Softies got a little interest, but it was really the little fleas doing the business - no wonder when you look at the anchovies the kahawai had stuffed themselves with. Not a bad day out for 8 litres of gas, no bait cost and no gear lost. Auckland's not such a bad place when you can get out on the water.

Went out to Kaiaua farm today,no fresh bait only some mullet well buried in the freezer, nice morning to be out but come 1.00pm wind came up.Barge working and we fished in its trail but no action, moved away to where we mormally fish and found some, very slow bite, ended up with 1x 32cm and 4 x42cm+

Took a bag of pillies  but rip gone. Got talking to the bait man at KKB and he wont stock frozen mullet fillets due too coming from aussie and fresh water = soft/mush fillets.wonder if thats what the gas stations are selling?

Mrs C got a yellowtail and left swimming whole just out of sight, something grabbed it,took line, got some back ran again got more back ran again and gone, must of just lipped hooked as lost no gear..

Cant wait till Thursday and hit Coro farms. Filleted fish and very fatty, guts contained no mussel shell but crab and a translucent weed.
