[QUOTE=bludog]Was just wondering if anybody sets off the Thames coast, I live over Miranda way and the wind seems to be onshore most of the time which is no good for my kite attempts. I haven't been over that way to suss it out yet so I thought i might sound out the forum first, any info would be much appreciated . I was just down at the campervans at Miranda watching a kontiki being hauled in...1 keeper and 8 missing hooks ...so I guess there must be a few sharks out there!![/QUOTh]
Was at that exact spot last week for a few days enjoyed netting about a dz flounder
& a couple of mullet along with unfortunately 2 rays also several small sharks.
To get snapper had to go out miles & still relatively shallow but fish if you do get them
fight like fury even the undersize ones which are in abundance. Managed three snaps
about 300 mm & was bothered by endless small sharks mostly hammerheads.
Have never found the snap fishing there very rewarding compared with Auckland but
quite nice to get away somewhere different every so often. Re your kontiki even if
you do get it to go out will only be in about 2 mtrs of water up to a km or so from shore
at high tide & nill at low. Inclined to think you would be better off a few km past Kaiaua
& the quarry at the pop site where the water is deeper.
