How big to Trev's get?

A mate pulled this one in on amongst a bunch of 10-12 pound snaps on Sat. We didn't weigh it as we released him back to breed, felt like 7kg or so.

Every cast seemed to be a hook up on the snapper, but just the one trev. A couple of pics of some of the snaps below too.

I have heard of guys catching trevs up to around 10kg, haven't personally seen one that big though.

Thats a nice sized trev your mate has!

Have caught them up to 7.18kg landbased at Waiheke Island and seen plenty up to about 6kg at White Island

Pete Lamb gets a monster trev landbased at Waihau Bay on his video Bent Rods n Screamin Reels. Looks about 10kg ish

I've caught some decent sized Trevor's when LB off Northern end of Twilight Beach..... some with big humps on head like big snaps -  guess NZ Trev's are just smaller cuzzies to the might GT's in the Islands, so they can grunt up in size -  mighty fine fighting fish too, specially on lightish gear and personally I think a far underated table fish too Thumbs%20Up

Best ever fish for sashimi IMO if iki'd & kept cold.

As with all varieties suited to sashimi it must be fresh as they
are almost invariably species that do not keep well.

Any on else old enough to remember when trev was about the
only bait that could be brought frozen. As for sashimi even if
it had been heard of way back then it would have been considered
barbaric.

Not seen many bigger than this one.  We landed 10 about the same size stray lining from Slipray off Little Barrier.  Some of the best sized Porae we have ever hooked too!
