We hit that spot I gave you a few weeks ago last weekend - little bit thinner in numbers, but still plenty there.

PM sent - although after sending it I read the "BOI Update" thread and saw that you had tried inside Urupukapuka already.

Would be good to hear how you get on with the other spots though.

Looks like BH will soon be the "keeper of the knowledge" for the forum on scallop beds in the BOI ...

GH: On a normal season, if you can't find scallops in the BOI you must be blind.  My fave spots are far from secret, but generally reliable.  Sounds like it's not a normal season however.

Hey, well newbie to the forum and came across thread. My sons just started diving, but we've had zero zilch nil luck with the scallops in BOI, used to be plenty out front of urupukapuka and the otherside aswell, but theres nothing? Anyone throw me a tip, sons happy enough in the water, but be good to come home with feed of scallops. Cheers

Scallops in the BOI have taken an absolute hammering. It is simply not recovering year after year and is getting harder and harder to get them. I gave up at 10 scallops on the 22nd (main cause 10 was my target) it was in 10-12m of water and some dives I got 2-3 other dives had none. Painfully slow. There is a reason no one is really trying..

A similar story in Whangarei. I’ve got a few feeds, but it has been harder work than previous years, and they are generally smaller and is less good condition.
