Has anyone in Wellington/Kapiti landed any snapper yet this season?

Water temp on West Coast?

Weather has been so terrible no chance to try yet, but reckon they can't be far off their typical summer haunts.

We had a fantastic season on snapper last year around Kapiti, both with respect to catchability and size of the fish, most beautifully conditioned and hungry.  Anyone else find the same?

Paul , brace usually means two. Bet thats two more than you have got in Wgtn this year!!

We need to get together with Kerren re his request for detailed spearo reports in the "advice" section not "forum". Will need your assistance especially re photos. I do not have a scanner and admit to being a bit of a thicky at times. Must be age as you alluded to earlier.

Yeah , snapper are horrible spiny things that invade our waters for about 9 mnths of the year. Give us some red cod , more coutta and big conger eels anyday.

The odd few schoolies have started to appear in Wellington Harbour , i.e off Ngauranga, and no doubt other areas within the harbour will start to produce, Evans Bay, Seatoun, Satellite Dish and East Side of harbour should be close behind for schoolies etc.

Pukerua Bay would be worth a crack in a few weeks, and I'd say hte same for Kapiti.....if the Northerlies push some warm.(er) water in. The last coupla days of southerlies haven't helped the temps..and it is quite interesting to see how far the cooler/warmer water can be pushed by 2-3 days of southerly/northerly's.

Looking out my window on Wellington South Coast now........ about  20 knots of SSW.  Sea about 0.5m in closer, but horizon looks a little gnarly.

Tomorrows forecast for Kapiti looks OK so hopefully get out up that way and try for an early season snapper, at least have a really good search around with the sounder and see what we can find.  Probably going to be too gnarly out wider for a 'puka.
