Hi all, I am new to this site but I have a question and I'm hoping people out there may be able to give me some advice.
I have an overhand reel for fishing SP's and I have found that the reel has a mind of it's own. It tends to do the over run during casting. I have tightened up the internal brake and wound the brake on the side of the reel up also. But it still does the over run.
Any solutions would be appreciated.

Get rid of all the brakes and use your thumb, its heaps easier...

What reel and line and rod plus bait weight are you using there pistolP
Oh and practice like madLOL

I cast a lot for salmon so make literally hundreds of casts in a day..still get the odd birdsnest though if you lose concentration etc etc.

Thanks Sea Sharp. I will remove all brakes and see what happens.

I've got a Abu Garcia 2005lp on a dropshot rod. I use it off my little run about. I'm useing 6kg braid and 1/2ounce head sinker.

Unless well magged most overheads will require the use of the thumb.  Just the way it is pistol.

Maybe you should consider a small egg beater for the sp's on a real whippy 6ft rod.   Seen some pretty good deals around at the moment on those dedicated sp rigs.  Don't need to spend much on the reel.  The rod I believe is probably the more important item in delivering the correct sp motion.  jm2cw
