So on my Penn 50Ws, which way round should my detent pins go?
One end is flush flat, the other end is rounded. They slide in to a tapered shaft for the 2 speed action. Should the round ends or the flat ends face the taper?
Thanks

Great link - thanks.
I need to flip them over.
Interesting - he notes the screws on the main gear are dimpled over so, can't remove. That is why I had to pull it apart - those screws come loose all the time. I am going to loctite mine.

Comprehensive instructions there all right ... apart that is failing to mention the essential little component that unnoticed, rolls off the table onto the floor then under the fridge to join the rest of the accumulated dust & debris !!!!

Bazza, should I pull my fridge out? Will I find the missing bits?
Those pins are a nightmare. Esp when your eyesight starts to be less than 20/20.

Before you do that, try assembling the reel sans the missing component/s as I usually
find surprisingly enough things seem to operate just as well without them ... raising
the question of what function were they supposed to perform ??????????

No ... seeing as how Murphys' Law invariably prevails in these situations you will not find the current missing bits ... HOWEVER you WILL find the pieces you lost over a year ago from another reel missing & had to be sourced at great cost of both time & money.

I got just slightly clever in my old age and buy 2 identical reels so when I forget what goes where when I take the second one apart too.

Doug - that is my plan B too. Just didn't want to pull another good 50W apart - in case I lost those bits behind the fridge. Besides - I put it together last time - so how do I know I put it back correct?
Better to get a proper answer in this case I think.

Did you work it out? I'm 99% sure the rounded end goes into the shaft first. Memory as haven't needed to service mine for a couple years as the big game part of my fishing has been a bit tough the last 2 seasons.

No - that is why memory is only 50/50 good, at Gold Card age. Ask Bazza. The trick is knowing which 50 is right.  The flat side goes inwards. As seen on U tube. Which is why this forum still provides useful info.
Better pull yours apart. :-)

Hey ... you are becoming a bit cheeky there young fella ... let's not forget the things this old fart taught you
... such as instead of polishing tardy shoes they come up much better using a spray paint can of gloss black.

Works a treat ... apart from the time that is, in the half light used a can of green by mistake so now have to wait until Saint Patricks' day 2003 comes around again.

Are you inferring that my stories, could be sometimes less than true ??????

Must admit tho many of out interactions have almost been beyond belief ...
the camera saga being a typical example of many.

Yes Bazza , the camera story is def one in a million. People simply would not believe it.
You lost a camera at the Ruakuturi. Some time later I was fishing there and found a camera by the river. I can't remember how I tracked the owner down. I think it had a Ph No with it?
It had lots of fish pics. Well pics of where fish might be caught.
Anyway, I got it back to a certain Bazza who lived in Akl.
Years later we meet up on Fishnet. Took a while to work out we were in fact the same people.
But true story. Like all your other ones Bazza.
