Cheers Redfinger, sounds like the sport is evolving. From a catching point of view, a long trace with well spaced flies make a lot of sense as you are covering more of the water column. As you know, trout can be finicky and lethargic at times, so it pays to put a fly right under their nose. Any tips on managing those long traces? What do you do with them when moving spots?

I have surprisingly few issues really - i use a 2m baitcasting rod and just plonk rod in corner rod holder with sinker on the floor of boat and away we go - the droppers blowing around are a bit of a nuiscane but you can peg fly to rod if you can be bothered and that is sorted.  Managing a fish close to the boat is not too bad - having a long handle net is good - fun when you have two on at once!
