Hi guys!

My name is Thiago, I am new here, been in NZ for a while and getting really into fishing in this country, it's way different and more accecible than back in Brazil.

I have inherited a feel rods from my girlfriend's grandpa when he passed away, I don't know own a lot of rods here in NZ and I was wondering if they are worth fixing.

The problem is that I can't even find their specs or which model they are since they look like they are 20+ years old.

Do you guys know any of this rods?

And yes, I have heard of Bill Hohepa before hahaha

First seems to be a Kilwell Reefmaster (?) and second a BonitoB180 (can't find anything about that).

Hi Thiago. Those rods probably aren't worth a lot of money but they may well be perfectly functional. Post up a pic of the entire rods and we'll get an idea of there condition and if they are in need of repair

Hi Smudge!

Thanks for answering mate, I actually want to fix them to keep and ideally still use them hahaha.

They need some of the guides replaced, and one of them also need the tip fixed, apart from that the boddy seems intact (a bit dirty tho, I need to clean it).

I wanted to know the model as well to see the specs (recommended line, etc).

Uploaded some more pictures.

They are low end rods but probably worth a repair if they don't cost too much. Some CRC and a scrubbing brush will work wonders at making them look new again. You can take them to a fishing tackle shop and ask for a quote or look it up on YouTube and have a go your self, just match the size of the eyes. I have even used electrical tape for an emergency repair, but if the rods have sentimental value you may want to pay for a professional job. Bear in mind you will probably pick up a modern equivalent such as an Ugly Stik (if they still make them) for under $100

The other thing to consider is what you hope to use the rods for. one appears to be only 5'7", so is a boat rod - not suitable for shore fishing.
No problem if you have a boat, but I suspect from your circumstances maybe not?
And from the guides, they look like they're most likely for an overhead reel, not a spin reel, which again is an indication that they're designed for boat (bottom) fishing.

Once you've decided that, as Smudge has said, a tackle shop with a good rod maintenance department - eg. The Big Fish in Auckland, can do a quick assessment and let you know if it's worth fixing them up.
I second what Smudge said, Ugly Stik are really good value and good quality if you just want to have a go.
