Caught and released a Marlin recently out off the Coro in my little tinny. Ate a livey and put up a good account of itself, especially as I was solo. First time editing a GoPro video and putting something on YouTube. Mind the expletives...

Cheers

EPIC!!!
Awesome job. Well done. You didn't even have a rod bucket or harness on and managed to fit them up. I know how hard that is. I fish with them on all the  time if solo.
You did that real well. And the release.
What sort of livie and rig did you use.

Cheers mate. Had the harness close, and wasn't too hard to get on once the fish eventually settled down a bit.

Just a Jack Mac on a 3 meter length of 300 pound trace with a 10/0 circle did the damage 👍

Bloody good fun!

Yes having the gear handy helps - not stowed up front under other stuff.  Edit. I didn't recognise you had the belt on earlier? I was admiring your threshold for pain.
But I don't find it a problem wearing both all the time lines are in the water.
How did you rig the Jack mac?  Bridle? How long a bridle? Curious.

Wait til you get one solo and it insists on doing circles around your boat - rather than coming alongside. Anti-clockwise circles are tolerable - you can keep it on your side and keep up . But it is still a never ending game. Clockwise circles are a nightmare. You end up hard lock in reverse trying to keep it off the back of your boat. It can out manoeuvre you this way. And the faster you try to go to catch up, the faster it runs ahead.
If you get stuck like this you could try this plan - I have yet to execute it, but has a good chance to work. Break off that game and bang the motor foward and pull out 50m of line at an angle to the fish. Then basically bring it to the boat again while in idle foward. Hopefully it may forget to go in circles again.
Regards

Thanks a lot guys, glad you enjoyed it, and appreciate you all taking the time to comment.

Alan, I had that exact issue last season, scrapping a solid Stripey solo for over 2 hours. Did hundreds of circles.... I did as you said at times, powering away from the fish to keep its head out of my propeller, thing was damn near trying to kiss the prop! It continued the circles each and every time it came back close, but it gives a solo angler a short but needed mental break, and keeps the fish working hard. Patience will eventually pay off if you don't chop your own line off lol. That fish got me under the boat many times, so I just had to freespool the line out so it would come back out the back of the boat and under the engine leg!

Luckily this fish only played those games for the last half an hour or so of the fight. It's good fun but not easy to be honest.

The side console and fold away seat is definitely very handy when maneuvering solo.

Alan, I also replied to your PM re rigging.

Cheers
