Hey there.
Anyone suggest an alternative non corroding handle that I can replace on my shimano corvalus 300  baitcaster?. The one that comes with it must be a cheap alloy and has lasted maybe a dozen fishing trips off a jetski. Despite a rinse off with saltaway after each trip the handle has completely disintegrated over winter with corrosion where it joins at the reel. Tried to claim under warranty but unfortunately not covered.
Might have to cut my losses and replace with a better reel but wondered if anyone has an ideas here?.

For the price of a corvalus it's unlikely you'll find a cost effective replacement. That sucks imo and I hope you find something. Maybe coating it when new with lanocote or something will help.

thats strange. have two corvalus  cvl 400. One about 5 year old, other about 2 year old. Handles on both just like new. They have been used on most fishing trips. So lots of hours on them.
Surprised shimano didnt come to the party on this issue.

I had Corvalus for a number of years and never had a problem with it. Reels get a dunking on the ski so you might be better to look at something a bit more suited to that type of fishing.

Agree with cirrus, have owned 2, handles were all good, no corrosion at all. You can get the "power handle" for them. You may have gotten that 1 in a 1000. Mine were older though some 12yrs ago, maybe material changed since then. Anywhoo other options for reels to look at if wanting to stay with overheads... Penn fathom 12 or 15 great reels have owned 3, 1 is a lever drag, great reels. have 2 left. Daiwa Lexa with power handle, upgrade drag when it wears out, fathoms drags well there Penn. drags washers are great... these reels are twice the price of a Corvalus though. If you bought it from a tackle store try them for replacement handle. You'll notice not one of those reels I mention are shiman.....  Beer

Yeah and I had a reel cover for it but it doesnt cover the handle. My five year old shimano spinning reel is fine but this one is a lemon - maintain both the same. Shimano say its a poor maintenance issue.
Might start looking for a different brand and spend a bit extra. The corvalus was just a spare or a buddy rod when I took someone with me. Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for all the advice and to Crochet Cast for the handle option. After trying the overhead reel with the corvalus I think I prefer the spinning reel so I think I'll just cut my losses.
Cheers
