I read with interest in the latest
NZ Fishing News that Composite Developments in Albany is bringing in the Aussie brand TT Lures jigheads.
That's good news. I guess it will take a while for them to filter into shops.
I've previously imported them from Australia and found them excellent. They use Mustad and Gamakatsu hooks, which I've found stay sharper than OA Lightbulbs. They are designed to be used with Z Man or other brands with the stretchy buoyant material - they have about a 5mm gap between the 'ribs' and the head, for the end of the lure body to pop into - they hold on really well.
I particularly like the Big Eyez and the Demonz, which have a range of cool eyes and coloured heads (though it looks like CD is only bringing in the black Big Eyez heads with lumo eyes at this point), and the Demonz look great with small baitfish imitation bodies. The plain Headlockz HD are good too.
One curious thing with the Aussie market is they tend to use quite big hook sizes - often recommending 5/0 with 5" plastics, 7/0 with 7" etc. Most people here use smaller hook sizes - though the 3/0 hook used in the OA Lightbulb is quite a bit bigger than a Mustad or Gamakatsu 3/0 if you put them side by side - it's more like a short shank 5/0.
I have no connection to the manufacturer or the distributor, but those are my thoughts. I'll be curious to see if the TTs make inroads into an already pretty mature market with lots of social media content supporting other brands.
