The backstory: 2014 I had to return to the UK for my Dads funeral. He was a keen fly fisher in Scottish Lochs back in the day, and had built a few bamboo rods in 1970. I brought one back with me, along with one from Sharpe’s and 2 bamboo blanks.
Just prior I had made my first rod from a 2pce 8wt I got second hand from BA, rebuilt as a SWF rod.
So, the intention was to build an exhibition rod however I have now bought a nice bamboo blank from AliExpress. It came with Nickel Silver ferrules, I have a lovely red Agate stripping guide…
But what else? Do I go traditional with ring guides, or modern snake?
I’ve got red silk, but varnish or epoxy? (Repaired a guide on a bamboo rod I was given, it had purple thread and I had the perfect match in a box of Gudebrod I bought from TradeMe years ago)
Ive got a overly wood burl reel seat, it could make a half decent rod to fish, but trad. or modern?
