They will be racing this weekend.
Only two possible results.
Prada wins both.
Or racing is cancelled for lack of wind.
I pick the latter.

Do any of you know why team nz has a batwing so called sail now.
Test.
Just cruising in my now sweetas pimped out Southern 755 HT0!

Originally racing was scheduled for Fri. But Oneos was pushing for another week delay. Prada said if not decided by next Wed, then the current points leader is the winner.
The compromise seems to be racing from Sat. Oneos obviously looking for more time.

Hi Mattoo Re the batwing sail. TVNZ said Team NZ were testing the sail for use in strong wind conditions?

It's an interesting development for these guys even though developed decades ago.

The principle of the square top rig is to suggest the rig is taller and control twist and leach tension.

The batwing creates leach tension by its construction and therefore can possibly increase its twist to be more stable.

I'm not sure if the top is bearinged on the mast which is a great tool for light winds, can be good for exhausting energy in strong winds.

Great to see nz trying all this tools.

Well that should raise a few eyebrows with today's honours being split between the teams.
Still a long way to go for the Brits but they will be encouraged by the fact that they were able to keep their nose in front after a more positive start.

A shame about the first race an penalty.

Loved the second race, showed a bit more speed downwind and held their own upwind.Clap

More wind 2mro should see more dominance if they can win the start.

That will not suit the Poms, Go UK!

Even if the wind gets up to 10 kn from the north it will have no body to it so you can take 2 kn off that strength immediately.

Poms won't get there arse out of the water.

Yes, gutted for UK...

Some are saying take it to Europe where much more entrants can afford to attend, plus attract tourists and spectators. Versus this side of the world.

UK has a large sailing sport academia with the youth and Olympic encouragement, which Sir Ben is evolved and as an ambassador to the newbies. that will keep UK coming back and I think their sponsor is keen for the next one.

Yep go team NZ, great boats and very fast but I think I actually like the catamarans better. The exclusion zones around these boats with their wide arms makes it hard to put pressure on the opposition boat in the start box which is an important part is generally where the race is won and lost. Very much a all out drag race and the apparent wind line they sail down wind makes a real hard for the trailing boat to cast a wind shadow on the leading boat so they can attack them at the bottom mark.

LR very fast up wind and a great battle hardened team, going to be very interesting. Roll on the first race.

We must have read the same article.  What I couldn't work out was how that was a good thing for NZ?  As I recall there is only a relatively small window after the running of the AC where the winner must declare where the next defence will be held.  I would have thought this was a no brainer for the NZ Gov and Team NZ but apparently not.
Having said that if the Luna Rossa team win it's not an issue.
