Hi, any recommendations on an effective hook remover available in NZ please? I can do pliers for the shallow ones. Am after something that gets the deepset ones but gives a good chance to keep the fish alive.

Rather than stick something down its gob and risk damaging gills erc cut line as close as possible to lips.

Thanks PJC does it really rust out that fast? I do think that it must get in the way of when it is eating as well.

https://www.quora.com/When-releasing-a-fish-is-it-OK-to-leave-the-hook-in-the-fishs-mouth-if-it-is-too-difficult-to-take-out-Will-the-fish-survive

Sometimes a fish will be gut hooked; i.e. it as swallowed the hook. This fish is probably going to die, released or not. Although I have caught several fish with old hooks lodged in their gullet. They fought fine; didn’t seem bothered by it. So who knows? If the fish is not wanted for food, or can’t be kept for some other reason, cut the line as close to the hook as possible and hope for the best.

No one answer but above seems best?
