After any information about the Tasman Tackle Company Limited, rod builders who were based in Auckland. I'm presently doing up a couple of old Tasman fly rods, a Tasman Monarch FL 1023 #7, and a Tasman Regent unknown details. The rods appear to be late '60s, early '70s, brown (phenolic?) sanded glass, perhaps ex Kilwell. I have done a Google Search and can't find any historical information about the company or the rods. Any information would be appreciated. Cheers

Pretty sure Tasman used Hardy phenolic blanks, sort of like the other NZ company that used Sage blanks. Remember drooling over their rods in the Tisdalls catalogues back in the 70/80s - way out of my budget which barely extended to the Kilwell range ...

Ok Wolfie, thanks. If you find any of the old Tisdalls catalogues, I would be keen to know details of the different models, etc.
Incidentally, we had an interesting day on the kahawai today, my mate Larry got a 3.6kg on a #6. My biggest so far is 3.15kg, so he absolutely skittled me. Fishing has been tough though. Hopefully, may see you soon?

Cheers

Hi mudfish,
I do have a stash of magaines and some catalogues going back to the 70/80 -will try to check them out this week and let you know.
Hope to pop down Tauranga way again - it's quite a fishery for the wading angler.

I was talking to a Kilwell rep. this morning who confirmed that the Tasman rods were indeed  made from Kilwell factory fibreglass blanks made in Rotorua.

Hi Don't know if you still want info on this but get hold of Ben Thomas at Hunting and Fishing North Shore as am pretty sure it was his father who started the company in Nelson.
