Hi All,

I have a break planned end Aug / start Sep in Tahiti, primarily staying on Moorea.. was contemplating taking the SWF gear for a look around ... but finding limited info of where to go etc.

Anyone fished around the islands before? easy to DIY or need a guide? assuming same flies as CXI etc?

any info would be super helpful.

Cheers,
Mike

As far as I no, most of its been stripped out by netters.

Mike, I understand that there can be some good flats fishing on Moorea, but you will need a boat to get to the flat and the distances aren't small. The best option is getting to Tetiaroa or Anaa for a guided trip. DIY on some of the other islands in the Tuamotu group is possible (especially if you speak French) but the flats are formed by wave action in that area not tides so the villages and points of access are always separated from the flats. Big boat rides are almost always essential and this can be very expensive (and a little hair raising). Rangiroa is said to provide the best chance for DIY fishing.

Because of the virtually non-existent tides there can be some interesting reef fish targets on these islands and the excellent fly fishing for big tailing triggerfish has hardly been touched.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the insights and responses gents!

Sounds like it might just be a resort based trip!

Cheers,
Mike
