Using portable FishFiner on Land

Has anyone tried using a portable fish finder of the rocks. I am just want to know if it is something that could be used to catch more fish. Will it actually help find fish? or is it just a waste of time/money?

Thinking of buying a Deeper fish finder which is around $350. Any thoughts or comments will be appreciated.

No experience with them but really cant see it being that helpful for fishing off the shore.

Better off just fishing in likely looking areas and using burley to bring the fish closer to you and on the bite.
