Gidday folks. Back on the forum after a break of around ten years. I'm a keen saltwater fly fisher which I've been doing since the late 1960s. Retired, presently live in TAURANGA, fly fish mainly in the harbour for kings and kahawai mainly. Spend nearly every day from October to June each year chasing flats kings and the rest of the year on kahawai. Keen to put something back into the sport and encourage the obsession. Cheers, Dick

Great to see you back Dick.

Many Tauranga locals will know Dick & others would have seen him up to the Plimsol line off Ferguson Park.
Doing it...like no other angler I know, 'cept maybe Shark Bait Tait, lol.
Good stuff Dick...will look forward to your contributions.

Thanks Bill. Spent the day with two mates up the Wairoa Channel today. All using #3 rods, light tippet and #8 flies. Landed 25 to 30 kahawai, and lost a big bugger. The bigger specimens will arrive over the next month when the water cools down a bit more. Cheers

Gidday Craig. Been a tough king season here. Apparently one tagged king has been recaptured three times and seven have been recaptured two times. The resource may well be a lot more fragile than we thought. So much is taken for granted. Of particular interest to you is that I had a six foot sixgill shark swim up to me at the edge of the Otumoetai Channel in the harbour at low tide on 27 January 2019. I caught one in the early '80s near the mouth of Milford Sound, but I have never heard of them in shallow water before. Cheers
