Been hunting the areas in between those two point the last few years with my kid and its riddled with goats.
Some places we have seen a dozen or more mobs of between 5 to 20 within half an hour of the car.

Was about to head into Leitch's hut for an extended hunt with him and saw this.
" 20 December 2018: Contract hunters in Whareorino Conservation Area
DOC has contracted goat hunters to hunt in Whareorino Conservation Area. Goat hunting may be occurring any time during 7 January – 30 June 2019. Hunters will be hunting away from the hut and the four public tracks into Whareorino, although shots may be heard in the distance."

so if you want Easy goats, its Before 7th Jan 2019 or wait a long f**kin time for the numbers to rebuild.

I dont personally have an issue with what the cullers are trying to achieve and having done pest control down the south island i dont envy them doing that as a fulltime job.

If anyone of the contractors involved is reading this, could you drop me a pm please, id love to have a friendly chat around timeframes when/where you  might be vs me and my 10 yr old kid.

Yes, thats why after seriously considering moving up to whangaroa harbour, i decided not to.

Raglan, tauranga and firth of thames within an hours drive and  a few dozen hunting spots within an hour n a half,3 spots that i've never seen any other hunters at in the last decade. All on Doc land.

Which makes it all the more annoying that docs not just thinning out numbers but going for total eradication of goats.

I dont blame cullers, if hunters are not willing to go shoot them the numbers will only get dangerously high.

Looks like i will be based at Leitchs hut with a few overnight fly camps from New years till the 7th. May as well get in first.
