Hey guys
Having issues with the tachometer on my johnson 90
Is only working very sporadically
Anyone got a wiring schematic for these motors or ideas on were to look to fix it
Have checked all the connections on the back of the guage and they all seem corrosion free and tight

Cheers
Alex

Not sure if the tach/ regulator is the same as the newer 2000/ 2005.
Check the battery is being charged...
usually the problem lays with the tach end.. check wires  on the back are all good, nuts firm.
Also u may find a broken wire, inside the insulation within an inch of the connection.

These are 2004/5.. basically the same.

1999 should be running the Systemcheck tacho that has the 8pin deutsch connector on back and 4 respective warning symbols on the face, there's a black dial with arrow on the back for setting pole, sometimes dialling this back and fwd before resetting on 6 can help
Make sure battery terminals are corrosion free and tight, the tacho runs off the reg/rectifier from the charge circuit and any irregularities with this will upset signal to tacho and ultimately fry it.

Another thing you can try is fill a can 50:1 fuel & oil disconnect the VRO start the motor and see if there is a difference because the pulses from the VRO can also affect the tacho as the 2 grey wires are bridged the one for the tach and the other one is the grey VRO wire.
