Is this the start of the slippery slope?? Do not agree nor disagree. Iwi should use their brains and sit back and let "Fullers" run the operation and "Iwi" should take $ per passenger and maybe charge a wharf usage fee + a landing fee, clip the ticket on tour rides on the islands.
Motutapu in the early 80s had some reveling earth works carried out archaeologist who uncovered hangi pits, fossil plants that were present before the eruption of Rangitoto.

Why does it seem that these court cases only come up after someone has gone to the effort and cost of establishing a business and getting approvals etc?

And then Someone thinks they have the sole right to it, not just the end product/ service but also the decades of  millions  in investment  to get it to where it is today....

The same argument used for the islands could be put to the fish in the gulf and charter access to those fish...

Couldn't understand that last sentence Steps? I think/hope that the fisheries settlement with Maori put an end to any further claims to the fisheries. Charter fishing is an interesting discussion though as the charter operators do not catch fish. They just drive a boat to enable recreational fishermen to catch their daily allowance.  If I had coastal land and allowed you to walk/drive across it to access some rocks for fishing I would be doing the same thing.

The ferry operator just carries the people to the destination..the peopkle still walk around , look...
charter carries the ppl to the fish , the ppl catch
The sentence was more intended as figurative  thu... little tougue in cheek.. in saying that a lot of claims we aoprinanly thuoght to be bit of tougue in cheek

If we expolate the continuous flow of claims , and those that get ratified, eventually there will be no more claims as they will have everything...
