Shot out for a snapper/tarakihi trip yesterday after a work cancellation. Slow at first with the snapper, a few kahawai a couple of gurnard and a couple of pannies, then the burley started to kick in. We ended up with 14, biggest just shy of 5kg with a few in the 3-4kg range. Not Mokau specimens but a good feed

The tarakihi fishing was less spectacular, beautiful conditions but we only ended up with 17.

There was a lot of sign on the sounder on the way in so we put some lures out and trolled for half an hour. One huge run that came unstuck.

Roll on summer.

Nice catch Reiver, Pity that fish on the lure didn't stick would have been interesting to see what it was. Water is warm enough for a yellowfin and it is the right time of the year for that early run of Yellowfin that used to come through off the back of Whale. Water temp this morning at 6am at the Wave Buoy in 70m of water off Plate Island was 18.4 degrees, so plenty warm enough for tuna.
