I regularly use burley when bait fishing using a rod but I've never tried attaching a burley bag to the up-current end of a set line.
I can't see anything in the fishing regs that prohibits it but has anyone tried it and if so does it increase your catch?

Yep played around with it on those hard winter fishing trips.
Conclusion that effective was not there.
Have also dropped the long line, the anchored and drifted down the current line with burly low to the sea floor.
Again not conclusive as to being effective.

The reason being I think, is the same as those who put the burly down the anchor warp...then a breeze swings the boat off the burly trail... and it only has to be a couple meters off the trail to have the fish hang out left or right of your baits /lines.

Draw a little picture anchor up, burly line from anchor  , slight swing of the boat in the breeze, to where your baits are.

Can't help but think it'll just attract Bronzies.....and you'll end up with less fish....and poss 1/2 of your longline

I used a barley mate dispenser and a barley mate log. Can't say if it worked any better. But we did catch fish. Also tried chucking berley pellets in the area too. About 18m water of east coast bays.
Here fishy, fishy fishy.... Nom, nom, nom
