Yea you all know this one.
If it can it will, right?
Thursday afternoon we thought it'd be good to wet the bottom of the hull and duly hitched up for the tow to Tindalls Bay.
First thing we note is a rumble down low from the left trailor wheel. No problem there I thought there's plenty of time to purchase a new set and fit them.
After a strip (no not me) and finding the bearing minus a roller it's off to the bearing folk in Henderson. Problem no 1 - we discover I have a bearing made for a mark 1 zypher and hard to get! For what it's worth it also fits a hillman hunter.
The price for each side is over $250!!
No way was I going to pay that so it's off to repco and a purchase of complete stub axle assembly with bearings for both sides for $150. See it can be cheaper!!
We've cancelled the trip now and I've got a couple of handy folk to help with the repair instead.
Stripping to the guts of the matter, when I've disassembled the axle, suspension and wheel assembly I soon see the springs are useless and one breaks! The axle is on it's last legs.
Off to the good folk at Rainbow Trailors - yes I think I saw Barries galvanised trailor there - They sorted me out with a good price and expert help. I didn;t know there's single spring suspension to replace the 5 leaf ones. Single spring dosent rust so easy cause theres not a heap of springs all gathering saly water in between the gaps!
Whats more it's all galvanised!
I haven't got it back yet but there's excitement in the air as we've got a fathers day trip planned and there's a bit of towing to be done............
