Back in 2010 I splashed out on new rod and reel, wanting a spinning styled reel that was real strong and bomb proof. I ended up with a Daiwa OPTUS Bull 6000.

Great reel, I mainly fish for the std plate fish while boating off wanganui, snapper, blue cod etc. I have probably too heavy mono on it at the moment 30lb I think but again id rather have more strength. she has never let me down.

It came with a second spool that I have never used, still in the bubble wrap - Question is what do people do with these?? or what could I do with the extra spool.

Max Drag on the reel is 15kg and I havent gone hunting Kingys or tuna, I will try for these one day but im more of an amateur at this point in time.

We do pop up to the lake from time to time and troll for trout - I have a dedicated rod and reel for that.

I could put braid on it but is there any point?? what do others do??

many thanks in advance

Put braid on in and chase kingies. I had the same reel years back and it handled kingies just fine.
