Anyone love fishing - sometimes I would like company.
Im 73. Own a Stabi 1530 with cuddy cabin/screen (and anchor winch, no pulling up anchor!); Honda 60hp, all 3 years old, annual service. Go from Gulf harbour or Tindalls Bay beach.
I have 3 forms of emergency communication - VHF radio hand held, cellphone, Electronic Locator Beacon.
I usually go weekdays, to avoid the crush at the boat ramp, and sometimes out on the sea. I don't like getting up early, so a 9 oclockish start is early enough for me. And like to get back by late afternoon. Up to 6 Hours out there is usually enough for me.
I like to avoid any more than 10 knots wind sea, which reduces opportunities somewhat.
Go after snapper mostly, but I would like to look for other fish like John Dory, Kingfish, trevally, gurnard.
I occasionally catch Kahawai on bait, but we don't like eating them, and Im not keen on the blood in the boat, so I don't keep them
I fish with bait. Have tried soft plastic baits, but don't normally. Like trolling something around workups.
Usually stick to near Whangaparaoa or Tiri. If the sea is calm, I go north to around Motuora, or out in the middle, or south towards Rangitoto.
I would generally decide to go the night before based on the weather forecast; but its still subject to the forecast not worsening the next morning.
I usually clean the boat the next day, so not expecting anyone to help with that.
My boat has pontoons, that provides stability and buoyancy in case of swamping. However, its relatively hard riding I think. I like to go fairly fast to get there and fish.
I would normally collect $30 from a fishin buddy, being about $20 towards actual cost of bait/berley/fuel, plus a little towards the fixed costs of running a boat.
