Hi trippple,
there's lots to choosing a fishing kayak to suit your needs starting with how tall and heavy you are, where you'll spend most of your time fishing (fresh/salt, east coast or west, anchored and berleying or hunting the rocks with lures, etc., etc.).

Here are a set of questions that will help in making recommendations:

1. How tall and heavy are you?

2. Where are you based?

3. Where are you likely to spend most of your time fishing?

4. How do you intend to transport your kayak?

5. Have you any storage limitations that might limit kayak choice?

6. What styles of fishing interest you (eg bait vs lure/softbait, trolling, anchored, hunting with a sounder, offshore / deep water)?

7. Do you like to have lots of fishing tackle at hand (storage options)?

8. How interested are you in running a sounder?

9. Have you a budget in mind?

This sounds like lots of information, but each of us is a different size and shape, and have different fishing requirements. The kayaks themselves range from under 3.0m to more than 5.0m with an enormous variation in features and specification. The above will help anyone looking to make suggestions provide information that is relevant to your own needs rather than simply someone else's personal preferences.

Good luck with the search, it's huge fun selecting you own fishing kayak Big smile

Going on from Stephens advice I would say get a fishing specific kayak. Don't get one without the sounder scupper or centre storage for gear you will end up wishing you had. If you are the right fit you cannot go past the profish 400 as a great start for a fishing kayak I am just about seven years in with mine still love it.
