first trip to raro end of october 2015. went on charter with capt Moko, $75 bucks for 1/2 day. got a 62kg yellowfin! plenty bang for your buck right there! caught  bluefin trevs, longtoms, queenfish, piper, and lots of unknowns in the lagoon and of the reef with lures on softbait rod wading around in 25 degree water! if youre considering going DO IT !

Mid October for us, Seafari Charters were good for us, great sea boat, was pretty rough with 20 knots+ on both days we were out
Our best morning, great place for a holiday.

Edit, a sight worth looking up, go to the main wharf when the charters/comm boats come in and start cleaning fish, there are some beauty GT's that turn up for these scraps, biggest would be nudging 50 kg, a sight to behold.

Cheers

TCG check out Avana apartments, Capt Moko goes past there on his way out, there is a jetty you can fish off or wade in the lagoon right there, nice place to stay, good people running it, would go back there for sure.

Cheers

mainly fished in front of avana apartments where were staying. low tide on the reef edge   you can cast into the entrance and the deep blue. the motu island side of the entrance was better than the mainland side. avana apartments have kayaks for there guests  or you could wade across up past the moorings cafe. we saw plenty of 5 to 15lb bluefin trevs when snorkling the sand patches between the coral everywhere in the lagoon. couldnt tempt them on lures but flys might be the ticket. when capt mokos cutting up fish where his boat is in front of moorings cafe some of the meanest looking G Ts will  come into knee deep water. we got lots of longtoms and trumpet fish on micro lures  and cod and coral trout type things on mini softbaits so yould should be kept well amused chucking feathers, good luck and give capt moko a hearty Kia orana from me. cheers
