Post your details if you'd like to link up with others for fishing trips or days out. If it's a specialised fishing activity then you may be better to post in the appropriate forum. Landbased, jigging, free-diving and spearfishing, gamefishing, kayak fishing.

NB: This IS NOT a forum for people to be running non-commercial charter-like businesses and soliciting paying passengers, as it is a requirement that boats be in survey and MSA approved for charter activity.

Hi. I would like to hear from anyone who is a keen fisher, who might like to go with me on my boat. Its a 4.1m Frewza F14 aluminium pontoon boat, Honda 50hp 4 stroke, 2 years old. Not very big, but I think relatively stable and safe for its size.

I usually go from Maketu - which requires a crossing of the estuary bar. Been about 30 times, and no dramas. I keep to a rule (advised by coastguard) - max 1m swell (any higher makes higher waves on the bar), and 2.5 hours below high tide (any lower its too shallow to launch into the estuary). I also have been from Kaituna river, but I believe waves are a bit higher there due to the greater river outflow. I might also go from Tauranga, but prefer Maketu as I think fishing is better.

Unfortunately, the tide rule, means trips are limited to a window of about 4-5 days (when high tide is around the middle of the day - and max 5 hours out) - twice a month roughly. Then I require max 10 knots wind forecast. I think more than 10 knots wind is too uncomfortable and slow.

I have 2 years experience of Maketu. Results vary, from zero, to limit on snapper. I like the day out, the exercise - any keepers is good, but not essential. I go usually up to about 6nm, to south end of Motiti, or to spots in the open towards Plate island. I use bait, not soft plastic lures. Occasionally troll a lure after kingfish or Kahawai, but not keen trolling.

I live near Rotorua, but a buddy wouldn't have to live there. I am retired, and go any day of the week. I can go on my own - but like company sometimes.

Anyone interested - email me at [email protected]
