Hi all

Ive been fishing in welly for years but havnt been to adventurous. mostly fishing from point howard wharf hoping it will one day surprise me. like it did when I was a kid. this weekend the weather was good for a bit of night fishing, so with a couple of mates I went Friday evening to point howard wharf and had another slow night , fished from hi to low and only got bites just before low tide . a small bite time of maybe 15 mins. got a couple mackerel and a blue cod that reached 30cm so the blue went back to grow bigger for next time. not a lot caught for time spent. Saturday evening weather was still good so of we went again. but headed to mirarmar tried to get there before hi tide but was pissin around making up flasher rigs at the dinner table so left home late and got there at top of the tide. first 5 mins and my mate had run ratchet racing ( dreams of massive snapper) and pulled in a good fat red cod ( I know most hate em , but im happy with reds better than stinky month old fish from pak n save). and for the next hour . Nothing . we decided to pick up and head to seatoun wharf and spend the next few hours there harassing the herrings and leaving the surf casters soaking the baits it was quiet right until mid low tide when we decided to pack it up and head home. and my fat friend found had hooked something big and strong . and had good fight with a skate which we released after a couple of photos. all in all the weekend wasn't a complete loss. catching mackerel on sabiki jigs I hand tied and cod and skate caught on may own red pink and yellow flashers all tied at my dinner table, was quite rewarding.

anyone having more success in wellington?

Hey sneaky

I generally fish round Port Rd and catch KY's out of the river mouth there using pillies, pays to take a spinner with you as well just on the off chance. If your after a bit more of an adventure then the Wainui coast offers Deep sea KY, Blue Cod and after the sun goes down, good size Moki. I've never really fished off wharfs as it can become a little crowded (and some tend to think they OWN certain "SPOTS") but hey, everybody to there own right.
