Yes Not too far south though. Wide of Lochland. Came back over it in the hope it was holding a few kings but didn't spot any.

Small boats = 48 teams and 3 fish for the 2 days. 2 off Oceans and 1 back of Knights. We dropped 2 behind Knights on Saturday. Must be the first time you've not fished it for a few years. Out again Thursday -> weather packup.

We dropped one 200 back of nights Wednesday.....then had one swim past us in the Friday squall after we had pulled gear in 144m southern end.

Did a wide reccie day Thursday through Oceans out to 250 back to behind knights.  Lots of gannets waiting 110ish off oceans, not as much bait as last year but a few baitballs.  Water was green as from 140 to 250 off oceans.

Water awesome off back of knights at around 200 but given the wind that went through, looked like **** Saturday as we were driving home, Ruakaka would have been 25+ SW who knows....glad we pulled pin early and dodged another day of being beat the crap out of Ouch

Arrived at toots today to a 2 trailer carpark,
Yep only two trailers,
So a relaxed entry and park up.
Spoke to a solo fisherman who did some miles down oceans and behind the hen.
Big miles no smiles.
Lots of bait off oceans, and ...

Boats heard to be running out to the 1000 m for Mahi and blues, seems the longliners are being harassed.

I've put in my prep for dinner and awaiting the arrival of my crew in the morning.

Had to do a seafood meal to get in the mood and curry good karma.
Started with Apple brined, beech smoked shortbill with capers and dill in a cream cheese formed in a roll.

Main was sashimi yellow fin with a brown rice and quinoa lemon base.

See if that works.
Pic in next post.

Tough day at the office.
I have to say that, because I didn't see or catch my quarry.
As a boating day it was great and as a time out with one of my mates and his friend who had never caught a fish it was for him and us an outstanding day.
Sea conditions were great, weather was warm and not brutal.
SSTs were warm as, almost everywhere it was hard to find temp breaks.
But working the currents and the few breaks gave us an excessive amount of coke bottle sized skippies.
You know the water is warm like the tropics when these buggers are prolific.
After twenty odd or more for the day we had livies and salted bait for Africa.

There was a comp out of marsden.
Spoke to Krow during the day, we passed each other like ships in the night never to meet.

We came across false killer whales in relax mode.
Dolphins in crazy work up mode.
Birds where sparse, some gannets working some sitting after the event. Events that were light weight.
A few brown birds and a handful of shear waters.

The radio was relatively quiet.
There were some sticks caught today, we know not where.
And a broady was nailed.

We ended our day with a few snorkels at the Knights, catching some foreign poachers there, that will have there trip soon to be ruined, I won't let arseholes in front of my face poach in a reserve.

Then a jaunt back out in front of the Knights for a quick jig, nailed a nice king and it was time to return home for my passengers.

So good day yes, but not a cigar or an oiled thigh in keewie.

Well there's tommorrow.
So,for me, new plan new day.

Dinner was a success though.
Virgin waiugu nz beef for me. Back up Apple brined and Apple cold smoked snapper wings.
Didn't need the back up.
I've been soiled for life,
Follow the instructions to cook which is different than a normal piece of steak and you will be blown away with the taste, the texture of the melt in the mouth moments.
I only brought one, bugger.

Whitesnake,
Shortbill to me is a little stronger than stripes.
Smokes well, maybe a little drier meat even if brined.
But still yum.

Tough fishing alright. Bugger all fish about. No daily stop fishing so a lot of the 64 odd boats/launches traveled far and wide. Just 4 fish caught (2 by the same launch) over the 3 days. Bit windy for me to get out again so we wait.

Got this one solo a couple weeks back. Some good water off toots. Just gotta know where to go. In saying that though raised some really good fish in the sh#t water a week or so back. Some really fat stripeys around at the moment. Just not feeding well.

Nice one Risers. Good to see someone having a bit of success!
I love catching fish. But fishing isn't always about catching.

Weather wasn't as bad as forecast today, in fact it even glassed over at one stage. Wish I had a crystal ball and had got up and out earlier. Late start and early finish to collect a bit of table fish so another 0.0.0. day off Oceans was had.

Cheers guys. That fish was off the back of the knowls, was a bit good eddy of current there and water being held there at the time. The fish we saw last time wernt to far off bream head.

She's a 580 2008 model. Bit of an upgrade from the 16foot Bonito. You just set the throttle and hold on, goes real well.
