Bugger.

Can you give us an idea of your depth and water colour.

I suppose like us all you'll be back out there if you can tomorrow to try and nail that fish.
Or it's mates.

And the bonus was maybe it didn't end up in the boat by its own wayward attempts at fleeing.

Was in 400m south of the knights water looked perfect for a marlin most definately keen to get back out and snag one of its pal’s but had afew motor issues so need to remedy that before im chasing sticks again :( . Water temp didnt vary much from 200m out to 400m, majority of the whales, dolphins and birds were from 180m-250m only went to 400m for a bottom bash but suprise suprise thats where we were struck

Yeah there's some nice water 300plus north east of knights its 22 degrees. Lots of manta rays.. was out yesterday. No bite for us but looked pretty good. Short trip as we snorkelling in morning at knights.
Saw 121kg striped weighed this arvo at WDSA and there were a few fish on the board. Seems to be fishing better up mumu way.
Few bites including the fished weighed today and another yesterday starting to happen in sub 200 meters in green water in closer mumu and one capture yesterday inside Kumera patch.

Went out from bland bay for our first look this season. Dropped the gear in at 135m. Water blue and 20.3. Lots of dolphins working bait to the surface from 150 to 200m . Worked that area for a while but no takers. Worked our way out to the 400 north of the knights. Nice water at 22 o but not a fish to be seen . Anyone else been fishing this area?

Spent some time on the water today.

There are fish here, one boat caught one beside me, I'll never forgive him.

Water very warm, increased with the day, started out at 21 and down to 20 at the 400m.
Upon return it was getting to twenty three and hard to find anything below 21.

Bird life was sporadic for me as was bait. There were small pockets spread far and wide.

The fishing for some overall was good though. There were a number of blues raised, dropped hooked and landed. One went 230kg.
There were a number of short bills landed as well.
Striped Marlin were also there in the mix.
First bite was from about 10.30am till 12.30. And ESE of the Brett at 400 m was the go.
The second bite in another location came on about 4pm and went through to 5.30 though I suspect sea conditions and the need to have a cold one were the key factors there.

I heard quite a few boats crossing the kaipara bar this morning but didn't switch back to that channel to hear results.

Overal there are fish to catch but patchy. And the stripes are small.
No tuna or Mahi reported that I know of.

So sit back relax cos went don't need anymore of you up here, there arent quite enough fish to share.

Yeah Krow, I had a conversation with sambj as he launched from Shellybeach, kaipara.
On the vhf.
Why can't Barrier have that quality of reception.
I was only ten miles east of the Knights at the time.

we were out there too mattoo. got to 600 meters up toward brett and back to back of knights where saw nice free jumper inside a massive workup. Some friends of ours got the blue on their launch great catch for "incommudicado ". nice big fish. was great day really conditions wise.
As a good mate and one of best fisherman up here reminded me when I got back to ramp, lamenting our lack of action on 3 recent trips..he said on his way to the markets "sometimes you just got to wait your turn" and he also told me off for blaming my suzuki outboard as reason for no strikes

Matt, Didn't realise it was you. Great reception considering our distance apart.

Realised I had missed a component there.
Water colour.
I only got to 400 m and in the areas I ran the blue water was ok only. Not a nice blue.

There was also a free blue nose fish market out there.
Seems some enterprising fisherman was picking up floaters from a commercial guy who was operating out at the 600 m mark.
Better than road kill I hear.

Shaneg, yes that boat had a good day.
You must let me know where that work up was. Pm me.

I was looking for tuna and Mahi myself.
They still seem to be thin on the ground.

Otdrm, was a long way.
See you binned up by 10.30 eh. Well done. All light I hope.

Morning all fellow toots fishers
I too as out there on one of those gin palaces looking to run you little guys over for a change.
We left out of BOI and headed out off the Brett to about 200 then tracked SE out to 330ish. Awesome purple blue water out there the odd solo diving gannet, saw one SB spearfish we think??? Nothing else all day. No bait on the sounder
Water temp up to the 21s some great current lines around the 280 off mumu
Think I might have a ride on a slightly smaller gin palace today so look out I’m coming after you Mattoo

Day two.
Bit of a fizzer for me.
The zone I went to hunt became to ****ty to get to.
Oh well that's Mother Nature.
So pulled the pin and went home.

On a brighter note, there were at least two fish caught before I switched the radio off.
One very good size short bill and a 120 ish stripy which was long and thin.
With condition it would become a better fish later in our season.
And one good Mahi at 10 kg ish, bugger I should of stayed.

Expect there would of been some good results today for those who stayed out.
Certainly a couple of good zones south of the Knights.
And as it turned out some off the Brett.

So I'm looking forward to my next mission, the weather will tell me that.

Mattoo , no secrets. work up was not too far from kumera patch and it went for long time moving north, a lot of gannets. Stripey we saw jumping about 5 times, so got good look, was inside kumera patch about 160 -170 didn't check depth exactly but was just before we saw work up happening which was slightly further out. We headed in direction of free jumper and noticed all the birds flying one way as got closer saw dolphins. Other boats saw free jumping and marlin in same area, heard may been hookup or two after we packed it in about 4.30 pm
There are stripeys being caught in green water but most boats are fishing blue hot water most of day further out, including us. Surprising most action we saw was inside close to favoured traditional grounds.
