Fished in the Tutukaka Small Boats aboard Game Time with Jon and Lars Christensen. Ended up taking it out with 3 tagged and 2 landed stripeys over 5 days fishing. One marlin was DOA which was a bugger. Got them all on livebaits. Both live kahawai and downrigged maccies.

Well done!👍👍
Out of interest, why doesn't a DOA count?

It does just less points if under 120kg. Also 2 separate prize categories for landed and tagged fish.

Dead On Arrival. Would have preferred to have tagged the fish but it came in backwards. Was one of a double.

Lots of boats out there yesterday and a few fish. Very entertaining on the VHF with a few children getting rather heated ....... We didn't find any fish unfortunately, and had a bumpy ride back to Mangawhai - to a very low tide that caused a few people to struggle....

Mate that fella in the black boat was almost like the fella in the white boat. Was entertaining. Few more details could work, a lot of boats out there.

As a long shot did anyone on here pick up a fender with some bling around the entrance to toots this morning??

Just a little TR. Fished last 3 days. First 2 down off Oceans again with the masses. The marlin were there just not in the numbers on previous days. Both days ramps chocka early and most of the boats in clusters live baiting. A few got lucky and were Johnny on the spot when they popped their heads up for a feed. Both days well over 50 boats in the area. I saw a few hook up but couldn't get a bite and I got frustrated so change of tack today and went out and around the Knights instead. Much more peaceful and I enjoyed the day far more, even though it was a little too peaceful for my liking. Better water out past 200m but just nothing in it. Saw just 3 other boats all day. Oceans was also fairly quiet today. I think only 1 or 2 fish called in (excluding sharks). Sounds like the seiners have been hoovering up all the bait at night when the fleet goes home and now there is very little left.

Fished off Oceans again today after rumors the fish are still about and yes one was caught and released today est at 150kg just not by me. I had a couple of chances on lures at 124m East of the North wreck. The first fell off once tight. Never jumped. No chaff on lure either. The second just a bite in the same area. I saw it but can't confirm what it was as was quite brown colour, not lit up at all.
Livebaited the area for the next two hours but nada Chap inside me at 115 also lost one. About 7 other boats out there that I saw. Weather not good enough for me to venture out again tomorrow. Couple of dolphin workups to get the blood boiling.

On a side note. The RED cross is where I caught a Marlin in April 2016 The yellow one is the hookup I had Friday. The distance on the photo is 55m from boat to the + Cool Wacko Freaky. Wonder if it was the same fish? Na couldn't be cause I ate it.

There are reasons why a certain spot holds marlin. I've no doubt you'll be back there again!

Bonze the heat in evil was the only lure to get attention. Noticed a mean as rash on my teaser too. Would have been great if I'd seen that one at 2.5m off the transom.

Thanks for that.  I had a couple of touches on lures down there
4 weeks ago...  was on home made lures..  and one of them looks remarkably like the heat..  but in bronze /clear over lumo.

Oh well... this blow might spell the end of the sesason for most boats.

Next good weekend we might vacate Tutukaka and head home..

Good luck to any boats going out.. next week might be a few calm days.

J

Has anybody heard of any action around ocean beach or the Mokes in the last couple of weeks?   Our boat will be heading to the Mokes on Sunday...  then back to Sandspit Sunday....  Any info appreciated.

Cheers J
