Some amazing footage was shot and will be worth a watch when it’s edited and ready in a few weeks.

Follow reef hunter channel on YouTube and you will be in for a treat when the video launches.

All I can say is anyone jumping in for a swim out wide and taking on a marlin has some big kahunas.

All the boats in the area were really good and gave us room so big thanks to all that gave way.

Big Kahanas would  be an understament, was lot of boats out also.
Congrats on releasing fish.

Sounds as if the Manukau/Kaipara went quiet for tuna and marlin - anything happening out there ?

On the weekend of the 13th & 14th there were plenty of hook ups with one CSFC boat reporting a blue they lost at the boat and another hooked a big black (I've seen the video), so yeah there are still fish around. A few mahimahi caught that weekend also

Counties weighed a fish for a non-member on board a club members' boat just before New Years. It was 138kg caught out from 110m. Usually the first fish of the season for us are small and caught out wide. Nothing since apart from an albacore or two. There you go

Haven't heard about the Kaipara but the Manukau has been slow. not much of anything yet but a handful of small 20kg SBFT have been caught. Otherwise a very few tuna around from what I've heard just the odd albacore here and there

We fished at Raglan yesterday, plenty of solid albies to 8 - 9 kilo around in 80 -90 meters. Didnt see any marlin though and bird life sparse where we were.

I'm betting there will be a bunch of boats out over the weekend which can only help with locating the marlin

Just be aware that the Waikato River Bar channel has moved and currently the markers and camera dont show the channel. Waikato Council have been informed.

Headed out from Shelly beach yesterday avo for a snapper Wack and stay on the boat to get a early jump over the bar this morning . Crossing was sweet and headed out to 240 m straight out , 2 other boats were round us . Came across dolphins and a large gannet free for all , hung in for a hour and head out to 240m . Lots of life with patches of birds sitting with there heads under the water looking for bait that is around . Hung in there till 1020 am and headed back to 137 m . Bang the shot gun went off with lots of weight , 30 seconds later 250 meters of wool out it burst out of the water with some good grey hounds . Had him 20 meters from the boat after 10 mins then it exploded out of the water . Holy **** , it was impressive. This was a tough fight which went 1 and a half hours . Didn’t have a harness either as I forgot it . Had a courtesy weigh with Muriwai sport fishing club , big thanks to them .
Small Zuker black and purple feathers did the trick . Also got a bin of snapper . Cool day out there .
