Pulled the pin to mattoo I’m thinking the same as you.

Early start and diverting to kaiwaka bay for a snapper fish and livebaiting session if we can fill the tank.

wide looks good too, there are a couple of wide marks, 900m to 1200m off port waikato. Not saying that shallow is best, but there is bait in shallow as allways, temp and colour are also good. currents ideal. less gas

Went for a look yesterday off the manukau but pretty quiet overall.

Water pretty cold best temp was 19.5m, very little bait around not a lot on the sounder but managed a few albies in close at 70m Mark.

Another boat as far as 500m didn’t

Are you surprised or dissapointed.

Overall the West is not ready yet.

Look at the charts, unless your extremely lucky the west is limited for pelagics.

Albies yes, temps suggest so.

But otherwise your burning gas for nothing.

Be smart go east.

A marlin was sighted off our 40km spot today. That is waaaay south for this time of yr. 40-50km sth of Napier. 18 deg. I was planning to go today and pulled the pin at 5am - wind and variable forecasts. But to see a marlin down here at this time of yr is rare.

Weighed one in for Counties today.
Went 86kg caught at 300+ meters .
Spewed out some squid when I hung it up .
COVID is no joke !
One former patient was so brain damaged after , he thought he won an election he lost by 7 million votes .

Trip Report! (do people still do these? everyone seems to just talk **** on FB)

Went out from the Manukau yesterday, slightly north of the bar. Green water all the way out to 65-70m, found a good patch of albies in the 80-100m range and put a few in the bin, 19.5C. Went out to the 400m and best temp was 20.6 although very quiet. VHF was pretty quiet too all day.

Trip report.  I fished today by the cable, hooked up and landed a 108kg stripey in 119m of water.  Full of jack macs, squid, and worms.Thanks to the boys that helped my pull it onto my boat as I was fishing solo.

Great work Blindspot. Another was caught today by Animal also off the Manukau but I didn't get to weigh it. Estimated 110kg. No other details.
Best gurnard fisherman in my street

Fished straight out from Manukau Bar  to 600m still cold colour not bad . all the bait we saw was around 95 mtr zone Pretty quiet for us.Not much chatter on Radio . Missing my Witch Doctor!!
