Heading out to the barrier for a week or so. Any ideas where the fish might be hiding at the moment. Could head either nth to knights or south to mercs/hook area. looking like we might be in for a bit of wild weather also for a few days haha . never mind.
will keep everyone updated on what we find.

Fitzroy one base -  no marlin caught  ..
 
we fished hard wednesday in 30 knts for nothing, gamefishing was cancelled thurday,friday was a waste of time gamefishing with the needles being the boundary, saturday was 30 knts we fished hard for nothing,.wind dropped as stop fishing was called.
 
This was bad luck with the gale force winds over this comp. thanks to my hardened crew skiidogg,rhino,and the gimp, for taking on the conditions.
 
lucky we fished on tuesday as the rhino got the monkey off his back with his first marlin.

yep was hard work out there in 30 knots of easterlies . cheers to Karp for another great trip  , feed of crays on the first night  followed by rhino tagging his first marlin  the next day , then the weather packed up for the comp  only to finally ease at 5 minutes to 3 on the final day ! mega gold makairas drawn as lucky spot prizes  well done to clevedon gameclub  hopefully next year turns up some better weather !

it was our first trip for them this year
we spent only 1 afternoon and 1 night due to the weather,so hard to tell what was happening out there,had 2 other broady bites,fishing 40 to 50 miles off barrier 
didnt seem to have the same amount of life out there,a few more trips and we will have a better idea
Dave there is many good places to fish for them out there but is a long wayss ,
Mayor island is similar distance and may also be a good option with plenty of grounds to fish

Yes but fish dont eat warm water as is evident by the couple caught up here this weekend in 17* water. If the bait is holding and the water is not dirty they will still be there. Stripies don't suddenly disappear because the warm water goes. If there's feed they stay and they are a big fish that can handle the cold. Anglers think the water is too cold so stop looking for them hence you here of less being caught. And also because less are looking it makes them harde to find cos less boats are out seeing them

Yep good words Tom...I believe some Marlin never leave and follow the herd to the tropics, but stay behind where there is feed.

And yes they have brain and eye heaters and so can handle the temperature changes and colder water to suit their metabolism.

hmmm,,   got your bait tank fixed yet toni ?? probly not a bad place to look for a sword. better russel up jimmy to hand catch some squid live baits.

Still got boat up north till after queens birthday weekend light tackle comp at Whangaroa, but the concept of coming back that way for that reason has crossed my mind. Still workin on Jim, he's a hard nut to crack lately

nothing wrong with your bait tank tony, mite be a little to big though as its an arse to recatch the little blighters
