Don't know if any one cares or not, but had it good terms that there are quite a few swords off white island at the moment.a boat dropped quite a few so ya better get ya arses out there and give it a shot, before they are gone...

Anyway good going on your catch, sounds like you've had a great season

Firstly thanks for the cograts it has been a great season.. In regards to your comments of the size of that blue, just know that neither myself or any of our team has ever mentioned or even tried to estimate the size of her (don’t weigh it don’t say it) , but as we have caught some very respectable blues this year and in previous years we knew she was something dam special. So were very careful to get some accurate measurements with another boat right beside us before she was released. So on the tag card was 3.5m by 1.95m unfortunately we did not get an ankle measurement which would have been great as she was very fat all the way down. Anyway she swam away strong after a bit over an hour on 60kg gear, and that is what really counts for me.

It was a great year for blues down at Waihau, and the average size of them was better than i have seen for a long time, some good friends tagged a blue on the last day of the Nationals that would of had no troubles pulling the scales over 350kg.

Also sounds like you have had a great season with some very good catches, so congrats to you and your team. Regards AD

AD - Awesome fish, for interrest sakes if those are the short measurements and were done accurately that works out at 1016 pound, using the traditional girth squared x length divided by 800 (with your measurements converted from metres into inches)

Hey Adrian,

All good cheers... saying you release a grander is one hell of a call mate, especially within NZ waters. But, granted you claried that well in your previous post.

It certainly doesn't look that big in the photo (to me) where the boys are holding its head out of the water and sliding it along the surface... I can't even do that with a 900lber! Whatever the case I'm fully appreciative that photos/footage are a bad lead at times and can some times not do fish justice.

Also unsure how you can accurately measure a fish swimming beside the boat? I've had trouble getting measurements right when they're stone cold dead in the cockpit. Also remember that a couple of inches either way (length or girth) can result in a diffence of 100-200lb on a fish that size.

Anyway, whatever the case 750-1016lb, it's one hell of a catch and good going for letting her go. My sincere hats off to you and you team!

A big congratulations to the team aboard Matilda, they have had one hell of a season and as they said themselves, they never gave a weight.
I own 501 lures, but i can only run 5 at a time. What to do??? Man I have some sleepless nights!!!!

thought i would share some of the details around the 219.6kg sword. fish was caught around the back of white. Hooked at 1.30pm with a 4.30 hour fight time. Boated just after 6. Caught on a whole squid. They were targetting swords although they did get a couple of bluenose bycatch on sword rig. They had a heap of problems getting it on the boat and ended it up towing to white for the night with a couple of mates coming out the following morning to help them get it on and home for a weigh.

congrats to ruben and andrew on a top fishThumbs Up
