Hi Kerren
Are these seminars of any use to those of us who have never been gamefishing (but hope to) or do you really need to know a bit about it beforehand?
Thanks, Mike.
I'm new to the fishing industry (not new to fishing!) and so was keen to find out more about game fishing. After 3 hours I was in information overload mode. I think someone has already mentioned that $15.00 is too cheap - it certainly was. When you throw in the expertise of Matt, his ability to talk in laymens terms, the Auckland Marine set up and backup from sponsors - if you doubled the price, you'd probably be half way closer to the mark.
Talking with Pat a few days later and he emphasised to me that Matt's way is simply one of many. Prime time did catch the most marlin last season - remember that they probably fish more than the other charters in the areas they like to target.
I'd encourage anyone who'd one day like to catch a marlin, even if you're keen on chartering another game boat, to fork out.....
I was happy to give my initial impressions of the seminar a couple of weeks ago and am happy to do so again. Smudge - if you are new to gamefishing this will be the best $15 you will spend this season. I would go as far as to say go twice and don't buy that extra box of #32 rubber bands! Mr 'Spanners' really knows his onions (track record says that and listening to him it is very obvious that he wasn't downstairs having 40 winks when Primtime was catching all those fish) and, as importantly for this kind of do, can put his well thought out ideas across in an understandable way. I picked up several new ideas during the evening and also had reassurance that some of the things I thought I was doing OK really were OK. I went having a few question marks about some fairly esoteric matters running through my head and I came away with the mist having cleared somewhat.
As Kerren pointed out it is impossoble to 'please all the people all the time' in regard to catering to all levels of experience but I reckon the evening came pretty close. There is almost too much for the neophyte to absorb in one session ( it does cover most of the really basic stuff) yet there was plenty for those who have done a bit to pick up. If you are in 2 minds, just go - for $15 what can you lose - you even get a sausage and a beer!

No worries for the pics Kezza!
Well as a novice fisherman, I have to say that I leant heaps!!! In fact I still am, but that is because I have been editing the video footage from the event. In fact I would have to say that it is a real privelage to be working on this footage. Spanners is unbelievabley knowledgable, and I for one was in total information overload at the end of the evening!. Being able to look at the footage again and again has been a real bonus. I'm getting schooled up really fast. Well done to all involved! Put me down for the next one!!
Kezza,
I see Spanners hasn't done anything about that head of his!!!! Don't they sell BalaKlavas in NZ???
I would also like to add weight to the recomendation of Spanners and his methods. The man is a half witted south island mechanic by trade but certainly has some great ideas on fishing.....A nicer bloke you will never find and he absolutley lives and breaths what he does.
Without a doubt Primetime is currently the best Sword boat in the world as well as being right up there on Spangled Line tanglers and the other game they chase. Regardless of the hours spent on the water if the boat is producing it is because there methods are on the mark. Spanners can stand tall, he in no small was is a major contributing factor to the the success of this boat.
Keep Watching...The legend will grow, like Billson, Wright, Hamlin, Miller and Hayes all these guys started in the pit and became some of the best and most inovative skippers in the world.
Opportunities to tap into this kind of information is not cheap, $15.00.......I am coming across the ditch for the next one!!!!!
Cheers

G'day Big Snapper, (Tamure nui).
Love to oblige you but it is not actually mine to give away.
I'm not sure what Matt and Spanners are planning to do with the video, but I'm going to shoot the next one for them as well. Maybe I'll cut together a best of the 2 and the guys will make it available to the people that came to the seminars at a reduced price and a bit more expensive to those that don't mangage to get to see him live, Kezza?? It has to go on a 4 hour tape as Matt talked for 3 and a half hours...in fact he kept talking fishing and demonstrating long after I left. This time I might get some of his other demos down on tape and cut those in as well.
It would also need to be professionally duplicated as it is too hard on my gear to start running off multipul copies.
I must say though that there is way too much information presented for a novice like me to absorb in one sitting. So yeah, video is an ideal way to take it all in over several days.
ya sounds really good jacko and kerren all i have to say is, ill be waiting patiently for more info on that video, id be willing to pay more than a fair price as im sure others would to.

Hi Matt,
I got a lot from the last session. I would like to hear more of your thoughts as to 'what lures when'. In this I mean not just 'match the hatch' but how you would chose individual lures to make up a pattern, cup faces vs kona heads vs plungers etc., when to change sizes, lures for heavy weather as opposed to calm conditions - all that sort of stuff. I agree that you got the mix about right last time and the above is just one blokes ideas of what he would like to have a discussion on in addition to what was covered last time.
Cheers
