Going to wing it. I'm taking along a spin set, may as well make it hard for myself.

Don't be a woos Smudge. Man up - go for a hand line. That will make it difficult to another level.

I have had a marlin on a 6-8 kg spinning rod. It wasn't planned, and didn't go too well. I got the fish, but broke the rod.
Stick to a hand line - get some gloves :-)

C'mon Smudge, handline is the way to go.  The link below is self-explanatory.  What could go wrong.  Smile

My mate trolls with big spinning reels. He hates overhead reels and right hand wind even more so. He's caught a marlin and several YFT. Whatever works.

Nice reel smudge.  As I recall you won that.  Thumbs Up Line capacity would be my only concern. Good luck.

Yes I did indeed win it from The Wise Angler from a lucky draw at the Hutchwilco Boat Show. I have it paired to a PE5  Catch jig rod. Got to be easier than the marlin we had on a Penn 330 GTi for 4 hours :). Ohhh surprisingly we lost that one
