a workmates uncle flys a spotter plane for sanfords reckons plenty of schools of yellowfin out from tutukaka? second hand info so feel hes talking bout skippies? do the seiners target yellowfin? has anyone seen them scooping up yellowfin? we had a superseiner down at whakatane one year in between white and whale when we were havn a good meatballing season and the day after he showed up ther were basically no more tuna caught so assume they take out everything? or when they remove the skippies the yellowfin and marlin just move on like they did last season till they find a foodsourse they can get into without having the whole lot removaed right in front of them!!!

Mate SuperSeiners clean up everything, albacore, skippy's, yellow fin and what ever else is in the net. 
Nothing much stands a chance when they have 1.8k of net, spotters from the sky, speed boats to bail up the bait ball.
Superseiners can steam at 20+ knots and hold 1400 tonnes of fish if needed


Sanfords = sustainable seafood, YEAH RIGHT

thanks for that pieboy- i think- pretty depressingCry when i looked at sanfords fleet then talleys an who ever else we let come into our watersAngry the poor tuna dont have much to fear from a couple of zukers being towed behind a trailer boat compared to those vessels of mass destruction!!!

Wife and I headed out yesterday from Tut's at about 9.30am.   
We cruised at 25 kts staight out past the Sugarloaf and put the gear in the water at around the 200 meter mark.
Trolled out to the 450 m hole then trolled into the trench.  
Came across a heap of Dolphins with a lot of gannetts sitting on the water, nothing happening so carried on.
No wind for most of the day,  breeze got up in the afternoon.   Best temperature we got was 22.8, but averaged 21.7 most of the day.     1 Albie and 1 small skippie.
 
 
 
 
Not sure why my pics come up so grainy on here.   Can anyone tell me how to remedy this?

Bringing La Vista up from Westhaven to the BoI at the end of last week, we overnighted at Toots on Thursday.  Trolled the 100m line up to Cape Brett on Friday (we cruise at trolling speed, so it's dumb not to tow some plastic).
 
Three albacore (not big, but the one we kept was great eating as entree to the crayfish for Xmas Day lunch) and three skippies (now frozen for baits later).  Most off Whangaruru.
 
With these guys around, bigger predators must be somewhere near, I hope.

Went out the back of the Pinnacles/Knights and south a bit on boxing day for a look. There were heaps of Jesus birds around, the odd patch of mutton birds sitting on the water and small groups of gannets mostly on the move in different directions. Saw a big pod of pilot whales (i think), a freejumper of some description but it was pretty far away, and a shark cruising down a current line, no tuna or bait around but the water looked nice and blue. We were getting between 19 and 21 degrees on the sounder during the day. There was just enough action to stay positive all day without having anything to get excited about. Perfect flat sea too.
I love catching fish. But fishing isn't always about catching.

Might see you out there then James sometime after about the 7th if the weather's good. 
Keep an eye out for a the little stabi Obsession patroling a favourite mark at back of the Kumera patch. 
Don't normally start this early but this year the water at least has got to be warm enough to bring a few in. Emoticons

Not much today, lumpy soup that tossed us around alot with a fair S - SE breeze 15 kt +....
 
Heaps of Gannets flyimg high with purpose but nothing to be seen, called it quits and headed home after jigging the pins for one Coutta strike...but hey had a go...next week it's Houhora for 2 weeks, bring it on...
 
Big Bottle Nose Dolphins in the Harbour riding the pressure by the transom then big leaps right at the boat awesome to see...

Tutukaka has tagged it's first official marlin for the season big congrats to Margaret Taylor on leisure hour Clap Fish was caught around the nine pin yesterday

Was out at N/Reef yesteryear and did a little troll around for y/fin but mostly targeting kings on the reef. Best temp was 19.5 water not looking too flash. Had a short day left home at 04:00 back at ramp about 12:00. Saw only 2 other boats past the knights and neither were trolling for marlin.
