Sounds like there have been plenty lost. Didn't have the details on the Tuna, but also a Shbill weighed on Sat.

It was something like 18 tagged, 15 lost and about 6 weighed when we last heard on Saturday arvo... add one more to the lost tally after we dropped a good stripey (purple zuka)...
Fishing is not a matter of life or death... it's much more serious than that.

we went out to the hook and trolled towards the aldis on monday/tuesday, we ran hookless as were trying to spear one , about 4k out past the hook we found one sun bathing , one of the boys slipped in, and got to about 30ft from the fish, it didnt want a bar of it and took off to the depths. next time its on .

Did two solid days out off Tairua last Wednesday and Thursday with zaner , Wednesday was quite rough blowing up to 25knots at a time. We worked the back of the Aldies all the way out to the rise! Dropped what we think was a mahi in 300m off the Aldies and that was us for the day, in to slipper for the night.

Thursday we awoke to a much calmer sea and after ducking into town to get some more fuel and admiring the new "epic adventures" boat at the servo we were on our way up to the hook. Saw 1 little mako on the way up and a few of the other boats hook up around us. We were 2miles south of the hook in the middle of wandering what the hell we were doing wrong as everything seemed perfect, Perfect water, flat as, lures couldn't have been better, everyone els hooking up! When all hell broke loose. The right hand rigger rod went off in a big way, look up to see a huge swirl behind the lure ( joe yee apollo in evil ) and next thing a Blue Marlin greyhounding round the back of the boat. Had to get up on the plane to get away from the bloody thing and keep tension on it. Cleared the rest of the gear and settled into the fight

Fish stayed up within 50m of the surface most of the fight, was really stubborn towards the end of it when we had to put a fair bit of hurt on it to gain any ground.

Finally after about a hour Zane got the trace and we were able to wack a gaff into the fish, I then put the rod in the holder and put a tail rope on it.

After a bit of effort we had this lying on the floor of the boat , bearing in mind its a 580 fyran so it took up a fair bit of room!

After a photo session lures were back in the water but that was our luck for the day, We went into Tairua for a weigh, fish went 166.7kgs. Stoked to get one this season and it aint over yet! My second blue, Still havnt been on a boat thats been on a stripey before!

we got a stripe 240m behind the alides today, god knows how many others we've seen while travelling this week, mainly freejumping blacks charging hard out and others maybe stripes smashing flyers and saurie, plus a tangle yesterday with another which nailed a kingi livie in freespool yesterday which didn't quite hook up
