Custom built heavy tackle standup game rod and Shimano Tiagra 80WA. This combo was built specifically for GBT and BB standup game fishing. I set it up in 2008 when we were targeting the big Bluefin Tuna down the west coast. It has accounted for around a dozen Giant BFT up to 320kg with ease. Only selling because it is no longer getting used and someone else may as well get use out of it.
Rod is a custom built Calstar 6455xxh blank with Winthrop titanium ball bearing roller guides and Aftco bent butt. Built by "Ginger" from Barton Marine fame. Very good condition with just a little bit of rod holder rash and minor cracks on the binding coatings due to the extreme use. All new stainless
bearings recently replaced at a cost of around $180. This rod is a beast
slayer, easily capable of handling 35kg of drag and still lifting. It
has a powerful parabolic action that is easy on the angler and brutal on
the fish.
Reel is Shimano Tiagra 80WA with an
ergonomic T-Bar power handle. Loaded with 1000m Tasline PE10 hollow
braid that has been carefully packed on under high load. Currently has
80lb mono topshot. Very good condition with just some minor boat rash.
Not used since last service. Brand new drag washers and low range pinion
gear. Comes with neopreme cover and original spare handle.
$1500 firm. Will consider selling separately.
