yes have fished there a few times over the years only managed 1 small kahawhai but lost heaps of gear, would probably recommend a salmon burley in the water and a floating bait if you are set on fishing these spots, there is heaps of snags and some of your gear you might get back at low tide at bottle top bay would be better putting in the extra 30mins drive and head to waiuku forest better chance of catching some fish and better variety

Agree..
back in the 50s / 60s was a favotite spot of the old man and fished well....tried it in the early 70s without much sucess other a couple KY.
Tried it again , several times 18 months or so ago... not a bite...1 guy on 1 occasion got a small KY.
It seems thew ppl there are newbies, new gear trying their luck, rather than skill....
A noticeable lack of experienced guys.
And yeah be prepared to loose a lot of gear.

There is certain times of the year the kahawai run up the Manukau harbour past these places and we used to catch heaps of kahawai here as kids about 30 years ago.
Fish the edges of the tide particularly at bottle top bay put a berley bomb down and fish straight over the wharf there don't cast out I was casting out one day catching the odd herring nothing else then dropped a piece of bait over the side only to see about 6 kahawai fight over it.
After dropping the bait over the side I managed to pull about 15 out of there returning most but keeping a couple for a feed.
I have caught small snapper in the summer there
My grandfathers used to fish up in these areas with boats years ago and bring home snapper with their tails sticking out of the top of a sack.
