Hey Pcj, can fish well this time of year.
Quite often can find them in the area north of the farm, look for sign on the sounder.
Have reliable intelligence on a nice bin up to 10lb in the area last weekend.
Good luck

Got out for a land based fish this weekend directly infront of the Kaiaua farms. Quite a bit of swell about and my burley bag got destroyed rather quickly.

Hardly had a bite. Nothing else to report. Was hoping to take the dinghy out today but had other things I needed to get done before work tomorrow. 🥲

We had a good morning out yesterday in the shallows. Nothing too big. About 10 -15 snaps kept upto 45 and a couple of gurnards (quiet a few sharks too). Had the neighbour out with his grandson, who was smiling ear to ear. Cold start to the morning but a stunning day out on the briney.
PS - Skunk - I owe you $1.

Got out this afternoon with my boy out from Colonals.

The southerly was making things tricky launching on high tide, even more so getting back in. A few new scuffs on the Fyran for sure!

Picked a line that didn’t have any mussels as the wind and tide was making positioning difficult. Fished baits for a couple of hours for only a couple of fish in the mid 30s. Pulled the pin as the chop seemed to be increasing.

Good to get the boat out after couple of months of her sitting on the lawn though. Might start fishing a bit further south out from Kaiaua itself and see how I go next time.

Headed out from the wreck today was insane fishing on softbaits coming up to low tide, mate even nailed a couple on the Fly rod, prob 30 snapper all in the 40 to 50cm all caught in an hour, was mainly a catch and release day but kept 6 nice ones and a bonus gurnard
Does anyone know what the orange buoy out from the township is marking??
We drifted near it and lost a couple of rigs to this

Sounds like an awesome session 2Quack.!
Drakar and I launched late Saturday arvo for a night out to see how shallow would fish into the night and first thing..
Some average pannies, below average compared to previous efforts and was the most cold fishing I have ever been
althought the cordon Bleu meal made up for that. Cheers for that Gordon "DRAKAR" Ramsey!
Also if you want to target juvenile sharks guys I can give you some good marks😉😉.

What depth were you fishing skunk?
We fished 7ish metres a week ago and were plagued by those sharks with some snaps in between on baits
This week we were in 4.5m no sharks when we dropped a couple baits

Hey smudge at least there don't seem to be any " satan" sharks ..spineys down there...these were just baby sharks do do do do.

We were in about 5m 2quack.
To be honest the sharks were only a menace when we were fishing on darkness.

What depth did you find them softbaiting the other day?

Got out earlier in the week before the wild weather.

Launched at colonels and tried the farthest row out. Lots of current but only a huge Kahawai, so went into the shallower rows.

It took a while for the fish to come on the bite but managed a few nice fish within a small bite time right on slack tide. Mullet was the best bait, they wouldn’t touch the bonito.

Also had a sabiki down as I wanted to stock up on jack macs but didn’t even see one. Was quite odd, usually they’re prolific.

Good day solo day out though and all the fish have been eaten so a good excuse to get back out once this weather improves.
