Big queue at Manu yesterday morning my took about an hour to get on the water. Conditions were pretty good though.
Fishing was slow though. We were thinking about pulling the pin and heading in but stayed and persevered. Good thing we did. Towards the top of the tide got into a good bite and ended up with some nice fish.

Saw a sea snake too. A little brown one.

Pic isn't to good unfortunately.

Good you got a nice feed - i saw a 6am video of that boat que at Manu - it went right up the hill!! You can see how Rec is waaaayyyy more profitable than commercial per fish.

I have never seen a sea snake out there. I believe NZ has two snake species. That olive brown one and a stripped one.

What was it doing? Interested in you or cruising. Also was there floatsom around nearer it?

Launched at the camping ground ramp yesterday, we arrived at about 8-00am, most of the boats and there were more trailers than I've seen before. luckily most boats were already out on the water. We intended to cross the bar and head for Gannet, the crossing was good, headed for 40m mark and bottom fished, caught some nice snapper and Gurnard. Conditions were good out wide and there were a lot of fishermen out there.
Headed for Gannett, trolled and caught some nice Albies, Jigged for Kingies at Gannet caught a 16kg and headed back to Jackson's. Bottom fished for awhile, caught some small snapper which we didn't keep and some other grey coloured fish which we weren't sure of the breed. Wind was getting up and we didn't want to get caught in the onslaught of boats that would eventually cross back into the harbour so we headed in. The joggle was pretty intense and I was surprised to see a small open boat navigating it, bit silly if you asked me, was nearly swallowed up by the pressure waves !
Very pleased with the new boat, Surtees 700 Game Fisher, handled the chop very well, new 200 HP Yammie was economical 25 knots @ 25 lph, quick when it was calm 37 knots, very good rig for the west coast. Great mornings fishing, better than last time by far.

Those boys have won that race a few times. I spoke to Hadleigh (Skipper/pilot) last year at Surtees boats fishing comp. Reckoned that motor was a good match for the boat and made it fly.

Very quick indeed, don't think my fuel budget would stretch to be able to run at that speed for longConfused

Finally managed to get out from Raglan yesterday. Bar was nearly flat, conditions perfect. Trolled out to Gannet Island after some bait for the freezer, only managed to pick up a couple of Albs although we did see a Marlin leap out of the water @ about 40m opposite Ruapuke. Tried to find kingies at Gannet but nothing doing for us. A few people diving off the island as the water was crystal clear and you could see the bottom in a few places. Trolled for a while back towards Rags with no luck. Went out to about 43 meters and bottom fished for 30 mins, double strikes with good sized snapper and carrots in true Raglan style, got enough for the pot and headed back across the bar, washed the boat at the ramp before the rest of the fishos out wide came back. Very pleasant afternoon !!

Good report!
Spend a bit of time trolling around the albie strikes and find the mail school - a vertical cigar-shaped column. Marlin like to hang close to these.

Raglan yesterday, fished at 40m for a feed of Snapper and Gurnard. Biggest Snapper were 55cm all the Gurnard were a good size.  Kahawai were making short work of the bait fish had we hiding under the boat for a while.   Tried catching some of the bait but they were far to fast for me and the net.  The sea flattened out so went trolling out to 60- 70m South down past Gannet did a loop and made our way back plenty of action on the surface with Skippys and Albies  caught  6 of each while dragging the lures around them hoping for something bigger.

Had another go Thursday went to Bar Reef first caught small Snapper  30-35cm and some Kahawai gave it a couple of hrs then headed north up past Carters Beach thought I would try shallower and stopped at 15 meters, caught more small Snapper and a few Trevally one was a good size. Guessing there was a lot of Trevs there as got some good bites and fights but were losing them before we got them to the surface. Kept us busy for a few hrs then moved out to 35 meters due West of Raglan. Snapper were a bit bigger so kept enough for a good feed.
