Pleasing to see good size trevally turning up in catches.

Perhaps the gill net ban in the harbour is part of the reason they have gradually returned.

I'm seeing a few more trevs throughout the harbour this year which I am happy about they fight well and great eating! - puzzled by absence of Kahawai recently but wondered if Kingfish scared them away or decimated them?

We also went out Friday and it was totally the opposite to the previous trip when we loaded up - the fish were not hungry anywhere.  As Gumboot suggests: probably due to the very small tide. We crossed the bar and tried Piha - shallow and deep.  Then came back South to Hamiltons Gap tried shallow and eventually found a few fish further out at 40m.  But it was real slow.  Also had a couple of drifts in the harbour for kings but only had one lack-lustre bite.  Should have hooked up as it was a jack-mack and they usually swallow those whole, but the fish was just messing around with it.
Nevermind - ended up with 6 snapper and a decent gurnard.  Great weatehr and flat seas.  Cant complain at that.

thanks for the honest report appreciate the good and the bad.  For me in harbour it has been slower recently not sure if it is tide related or changing seasons though water temp still high its quite dark till later in morning and getting dark earlier now?

Hi looking to go out west manukau on thursday, any information on the situation with stick faces would be appreciated.
Is there a working channel on radio that people share info on the day ? Or is it every man for himself ?

Some use channel 5 and others 63 I think it is. Marlin have been hooked in as close as 35m recently and several caught in 60m or a little more. Most appear to be caught in 100 to 125m.
