Might be an early spawn since it was quite a warm winter. I doubt the water got under 15deg this winter.

I realise this also doesnt make for a interesting trip report! - but wondering if anyone else has had more luck?  There were a few boats out.
[/QUOTE] Good on ya Alex posting a real report on a slow day. Most people wouldn't bother which scews reality. When only good reports are written viewers might think its always great fishing buts its not the case. Still bet that 12lbr made for a few feeds. Well done
Why choose either diving or fishing when you can do both. Besides crayfish tail is very good bait!!

Well said....
We have been getting a 3 or 4 family feed out at the 30/35m marks.. and sharked.
The guys who moved out or went out to the 55/60m binned up in short times out off the Waikato
Looking at mondays window.. do a drop close in, then 35/40  if not working head out to the 55m, back over by 4:30pm
 gutted missed yesterdays window

Both fish on Wednesday were packed full of roe.  Looked fit to burst so I'm guessing the spawn will happen soon.

We've had an odd year.  Early September we binned up in 15m but October and November very slow.  Had a couple of good harbour kings in mid October and since then nothing - despite repeated attempts!

At least it seems somebody is catching the fish  - We've just had the bad luck of being wrong place, wrong time.  Beats working though.  Smile

A real nice 10.1 snapper caught today out there by a club member. Eclipsed the 9.6 kilo jobbie caught there recently by another of our clubbies.

As nice and calm fished harbour entrance over low tide - lovely conditions but fishing a bit slow - 4 snapper and 3 kahawai.

Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

Nice catch yet again john. By any chance did you notice if the snaps have spawned or are still in roe.

I did not fillet buddy did and did not see gut cavity will ask him.

Water temp was up and warm at 19 degrees so getting close I would say.

Good news was no sharks or red weed!  Surprised how few boats out though I went out early more out when I got back.

Brilliant day!

Went out in the harbour early yesterday morning too - had 3hrs of non stop fishing. First spot, all small - so moved deeper. Bait down for seconds before being taken...Nothing huge, but we kept 5 32-38cm.
Heaps of small kahawai round too. Was a great morning - with the bite continuing well after the tide turned.

Thanks John. Can only assume spawning out wide is well under way, so assume some of those that have spawned are starting to move inshore to feed up. (my theory anyway). Looking good from here on in.

You mentioned sharks on earlier trip. Did you manage to identify what type of shark they were.

Plenty of sharks there alright. I've seen a white shark, tope, hammerheads and bronzies swimming around, chasing fish etc. Lots of seven gillers, spiney dogfish, spotted dog fish. Coxie has caught a blue shark and a mako in the harbour too which is pretty special.

Even saw a thresher once swimming along the beach in Huia, just off the beach fin and tail showing, thought it must have been sick to be there .

That's cool. Threshers are such a spectacular looking fish. I've only seen a few but they go really well

I think it was ill , I was in the Huia store getting a coffee when I saw it over the road ( in the water ) , i shot over had a look , drove home and got my stickbait rod drove back down and cast and cast as it swam along the beach front but it wasn’t interested.
I could have foul hooked it but there’s no glory in that !
